Rare and important official Rio 2016 Olympic Games torch used in the torch relay.

The torch was one of just a select few used in the five-month torch relay prior to the Games. This example shows slight scorch marks around the rim from its use in the relay. An official Rio 2016 Olympic label celebrating Team GB’s medal haul at the Games has been added retrospectively – further adding to its prestige.

Lit in Olympia on April 21, 2016, the flame travelled through Greece and Switzerland,

and more than 300 Brazilian towns before marathon runner Vanderlei de Lima (attacked while leading the 2004 Olympic marathon) lit the Olympic cauldron at Rio’s Maracana stadium on August 5.

Created by Brazilian designers Chelles e Hayashi and manufacture red in recycled aluminium by Spanish company Recam Laser.

Features a unique structure that enabled the torch to expand upwards by 5.5cm when the flame was transferred between athletes. This process can also be achieved manually without a flame. When expanded, the white torch reveals several coloured segments, designed to signify Brazil’s blue sea, green mountains, golden sun and the dark blue pavements of Rio’s Copacabana.

69 cm in length, 74.5 cm when expanded.

Comes with its original protective tubing and carry bag.

A spine-tingling piece of Olympic history.
