Participation Medal from the Athletic Trials in Rome for the Athens 1906 Olympic Games

Very Rare in Perfect Condition

Genuine, authentic, Participation Medal from the Athletic Trials in Rome-Italy, for the Athens 1906 International Olympic Games.

The design of the “obverse” of the medal was based on an ancient Greek coin, created circa 300-280 BC in the ancient Greek city of Elea (Ancient Greek: Ἐλέα) located in the area of Magna Grecia (Great Greece – Μεγάλη Ἑλλάς) in Southern Italy. It depicts the head of goddess Athena wearing  crested, winged and laureate Attic helmet.

 Engraved on the “reverse” is the inscription: GUOCHI OLIMPICI IN ATENE 1906 – GARE ELIMINATORIE, ROMA, 30 MARZO – 2 APRILE (Athens 1906 Olympic Games, Trial Games in Rome 30 March – 2 April).
